Trip to Thailand: From Chiang Mai to the Beaches of Koh Samui
Thailand is a destination with countless facets, blending ancient temples, vibrant markets, paradise beaches, and exquisite cuisine. This is not my first visit, and I always relish returning.
This two-week journey took me from the tranquility of Chiang Mai in the north to the stunning beaches of Koh Samui. I skipped Bangkok this time, but I’ll still share some valuable tips.
First Stop: Chiang Mai, the Pearl of the North
Nestled at the foot of the mountains, Chiang Mai is celebrated for its peaceful ambiance, Buddhist temples, and cultural richness.
What to Do in Chiang Mai?
Visit the Temples: Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang are among the most iconic.

Explore the Night Market: The Sunday Night Market is perfect for sampling local specialties and buying handicrafts. You’ll also find charming shops selling everything from dishes to clothing and decorations. I succumbed to temptation several times!
Participate in a Cooking Class: Learn to prepare traditional Thai dishes.Meet the Elephants: Visit an ethical sanctuary to observe these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.
Hike to the Famous Doi Suthep: We persevered through the hike, endured the sweat, and reached the summit—it was truly majestic! The trail is worth it as it connects you with the breathtaking nature of this beautiful region.

Where to Stay?
The Nimmanhaemin neighborhood is popular for its trendy cafes and proximity to main attractions. However, we chose the opposite for our love of our hotel and the desire for a quieter environment.
We spent our nights at the Na Nirand hotel, a haven of tranquility and elegance with fantastic staff. The breakfast and restaurant offerings were wonderful. The pool area is lovely, and the rooms are incredibly comfortable. It was truly the best!
Where to Eat?
You can find delightful cuisine just about anywhere!
However, I was particularly taken with The House by Ginger. It’s a bit pricey, but honestly, everything is incredibly delicious, beautifully presented, and the cocktails are divine!
For a charming veggie café, check out Free Bird Café. It’s affordable, tasty, and unpretentious.
In the evening, Phaploen Market offers a wide array of stalls. Whether you crave local or international cuisine, you really can’t go wrong! If you’re in the mood for crêpes or delicious waffles, this is your spot.
And if you’re looking for something exotic, don’t miss the stalls at the night market! Guaranteed thrills!!
Second Stop: Bangkok, the City That Never Sleeps
The dynamic capital, Bangkok, offers a captivating blend of tradition and modernity.

The Sukhumvit and Silom districts are central and well-served, making them ideal for exploring the city.
Third Stop: Koh Samui, the Tropical Getaway
After the urban hustle, relax on the island of Koh Samui, renowned for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters.
Activities in Koh Samui
Relax on the Beaches: Chaweng and Lamai are among the most popular. You can also partake in various beach activities.
Visit the Big Buddha: An impressive 12-meter tall statue.Excursion to Pig Island: For a unique experience with swimming pigs.

Seafood Tasting: Enjoy fresh seafood at seaside restaurants.
Where to Stay?
Opt for a beach bungalow or a resort with an ocean view for an unforgettable experience. We chose to stay at Resort Santiburi. It was lovely, but I found it rather pricey. This didn’t detract from our stay, but the bill was a bit steep…
Where to Eat?
You can find delightful cuisine just about anywhere again! Your hotel will likely have excellent dining options.
I particularly enjoyed Coco Tam’s in the fishermen’s village. It has a super nice atmosphere for drinks accompanied by a fire show at dusk (acrobats with fire, truly!) and it’s free as long as you purchase something. It was fabulous!
