Candied Oranges Recipe: Quick & Easy

Tranches d'orange confite brillantes sur une assiette blanche décorative

Hello foodies!

So today’s recipe won’t be the dish of the year, I know… But it might add a fun touch to your desserts, cakes, or even your holiday tables! In fact, it’s a simple way to add a pop of flavor and color.

I’m bringing you candied oranges.

Why candied oranges are a treat

I said it’s not the recipe of the year, but coated in chocolate, these candied oranges are absolutely delicious!! Honestly, they’re a little addictive. Choose organic oranges if possible, since we keep the peel on during cooking. However, if organic isn’t an option, at least make sure to clean your orange thoroughly before using it. A good scrub can make all the difference.

Two methods to candy oranges

I wanted to use them as decoration on a tart, so I started looking up recipes. Overall, there are two main methods: oven or microwave. Both work well, but they have their pros and cons.

Why I chose the microwave method

In the oven, it takes several hours. Since I just needed a decorative element, I wasn’t thrilled about tying up my oven for so long. So I went for the microwave. Honestly, it’s kind of a first for me because I never cook with the microwave! Apart from reheating pasta or warming milk for my brioche, I don’t use it much, I must admit… But hey, there’s a first time for everything!

Quick and easy candied oranges

In just 12 minutes of cooking, you’ll have your candied oranges. Isn’t that amazing? So I’m not going to ramble on about it for too long… Let’s just say this recipe is a game-changer for last-minute dessert decorations!

What you’ll need to get started

A mandoline to get nice, evenly sliced orange pieces. Trust me, it’s worth it for that perfect look. And a microwave-safe container with a lid, here I used a Pyrex.

And if you love oranges or citrus fruits in general, check out my citrus and ginger salad, my Easter chocolate citrus shells, or my orange, cardamom and vanilla Valentine’s cake. There’s always room for more citrusy goodness in your life!
